K.R.C. Genk striker Oh Hyeon-gyu has caught the attention of Premier League club Fulham. According to Sky Sports, the Londoners have held positive talks with Genk about a potential transfer for the 24-year-old South Korean international. The forward has scored 10 goals in 21 starts this season and has a contract until the summer of 2028.
What happened?
Oh Hyeon-gyu was on the verge of leaving for VfB Stuttgart last year, but the deal fell through after the German club tried to lower the transfer fee. This season, he started strongly with 10 goals in 30 appearances, but missed the last two games under new manager Nicky Hayen, who took over in December.
What does this mean for K.R.C. Genk?
Oh Hyeon-gyu's move to Fulham would be his third European destination. He began his career in Europe at Celtic in January 2023. At the Scottish club, he played for 18 months with mixed results. Under then-manager Ange Postecoglou, he was a regular substitute, but after Brendan Rodgers took over, he lost his starting spot.
What comes next?
Oh Hyeon-gyu would join his compatriot Hwang Hee-chan of Wolverhampton Wanderers at Fulham. Hwang is currently the only South Korean player in the Premier League, with Son Heung-min and Kim Ji-soo playing elsewhere.
