Sunderland has secured a deal for 20-year-old DR Congo midfielder Jules Ahoka, with a transfer fee of £8.6 million. The agreement, confirmed by HLN and Fabrizio Romano, sees Ahoka heading to Sunderland for a medical over the weekend.

Transfer Details

According to Belgian outlet HLN, Sunderland is moving toward a definitive agreement for Ahoka. Fabrizio Romano confirmed via social media that the club has agreed a permanent deal. Senior club sources confirm that both club-to-club and player terms have been agreed.

Background

Ahoka, born in 2003, plays as a deep-lying midfielder for Royal Antwerp. He joined last year from AC Normands in the Democratic Republic of Congo and has since made several senior appearances for Antwerp, including an assist against SK Beveren. The 20-year-old impressed at the Toulon Tournament in the summer.

Reactions

Head coach Régis Le Bris stated that Sunderland is still working hard to strengthen before the transfer window closes. So far only one addition, the deal for Toulouse left-back Dayann Methalie, stalled after a medical issue. Le Bris emphasized that the club remains patient, calm and organized.

Ahoka has been granted permission to undergo a medical in Sunderland.
