K.R.C. Genk has loaned central defender Mujaid Sadick to Spanish top-flight club Rayo Vallecano for the season. Simultaneously, the Belgian club completed the permanent signing of Christiaan Ravych and brought in Bosnian international Benjamin Tahirovic on loan. Sporza Voetbal reported these moves this week in a round-up of Jupiler Pro League summer transfers.
Genk currently sits seventh in the league standings with seven points from four matches. Wouter Vrancken's team has recorded two wins, one draw, and one loss, resulting in a recent form of WDWL. They have scored twelve goals and conceded eight, giving them a goal difference of plus four. The gap to leaders Charleroi is five points. The next home fixture is on December 12 against 17th-placed OH Leuven.
Who is the loaned-out Mujaid Sadick?
Mujaid Sadick is swapping the Cegeka Arena for Madrid, at least temporarily. The 26-year-old centre-back, born and raised in Spain with African roots, played 36 competitive matches for Genk last season, scoring twice. His loan move to Rayo Vallecano offers him a chance to gain experience in his home country's top division. For Genk, it provides a temporary solution for a player who was a regular starter last campaign.
The arrival of Christiaan Ravych offers immediate cover for that position. The 24-year-old Belgian signed a four-season contract, binding him to the club until the summer of 2030. Ravych joins from Cercle Brugge, where he made 139 first-team appearances since 2022, scoring four goals and providing three assists. Cercle Brugge had acquired him from city rivals Club Brugge in 2021. "KRC Genk is a top club with ambition. Everything is here to get the best out of myself," Ravych said upon his presentation.
What does loanee Benjamin Tahirovic bring?
Alongside the permanent acquisition Ravych, Genk also secured Benjamin Tahirovic. The Bosnian international defensive midfielder joins on loan from Danish side Brøndby IF. Genk negotiated an option to buy for four additional seasons as part of the deal. Tahirovic, 23, previously spent time in the youth academies of AS Roma and Ajax, gaining international pedigree. His arrival is intended to bolster the midfield.
"He brings extra quality, control, and character to the midfield," Tahirovic said about his own role. His presence should help bring balance to the team, especially in a season where the league is already underway. The current standings show there is still work to do to reach the top.
How does this fit into the current season?
Genk's transfer activity occurs while the league season is already in progress. The team aims to create a more stable defensive foundation and gain more control in midfield with these changes. This season's statistics, available on our stats page, show attacking potential but also room for improvement in organisation. The loan of Sadick and the arrival of two new defensive-minded players are meant to address this.
The plan for the coming months is now set. All focus turns to closing the gap in the league, with the next opportunity for points on December 12 at home. The full schedule leading into the winter break can be found on the fixtures page. Christiaan Ravych is the only one of the three players to sign a fixed four-year contract with K.R.C. Genk.
