K.R.C. Genk has a new record holder: Bryan Heynen. With 389 games for the club, he surpasses Thomas Buffel. But Heynen is more than just a record holder. He is a player from his own soil, formed on the ground of K.R.C. Genk. His story begins in Opitter, where he took his first steps on a football field at the age of five. He played for Opitter FC and was later discovered by K.R.C. Genk during a talent camp. Via Jean Liebens and David Liebens, he got the chance to join the U7 of Racing. Under coach Frank Buelens, he began his adventure in Genk. Heynen grew into a creative number ten and later a smart midfielder. He looked up to Andrés Iniesta and wanted to make a team play better just like him. Under the leadership of Dimitri de Condé, Heynen experienced one of his strongest seasons with the Genk U17. He was appointed captain and later promoted to the first team by De Condé. Ten seasons later, Heynen has grown into a captain, mainstay, and living club legend of K.R.C. Genk. He won a league title, a super cup, and later, as captain, also the Belgian Cup. Heynen has scored 42 goals and 36 assists in his 389 games for K.R.C. Genk. But numbers never tell the whole story. Heynen embodies what K.R.C. Genk stands for: down to earth, hardworking, and at the forefront of the struggle. From boy from Opitter to all-time record holder of K.R.C. Genk. A child of the house. A leader. A club icon. A Genkie for life. Congratulations, Bryan. He will always hold a special place in the heart of K.R.C. Genk. His story is an inspiration to all young players who dream of a career at K.R.C. Genk. Heynen has proven that hard work and loyalty are rewarded. He is an example for the entire club and will always remain a legend.
