Notable absence at Racing Genk: this is the reason
Foto: photonews The soap opera surrounding Noah Adedeji-Sternberg continues at Racing Genk. After his potential transfer to Club Brugge fell through, the winger was also absent from the starting lineup. This time, however, it was due to an injury rather than transfer rumors.
Noah Adedeji-Sternberg was absent from the Racing Genk squad for the competitive match against Zulte Waregem on Saturday. Given the tumultuous transfer summer of the winger, his absence was immediately noticeable. However, according to Het Laatste Nieuws, there was no new development regarding his future: Adedeji-Sternberg was dealing with an injury.
Genk starts with painful loss
Genk's starting lineup without Adedeji-Sternberg was not a successful one. The team of Thorup came on top thanks to newcomer Rafiu Durosinmi and seemed to be on their way to the three points for a long time.
However, the final phase was completely disastrous. Aké equalized in minute 82 with a free kick, and Ujka scored the 2-1 four minutes later. Genk will receive Westerlo next weekend. By then, it will be clear whether Adedeji-Sternberg is available again and actually part of Thorup's match selection.
