K.R.C. Genk has secured an impressive investor. Thibaut Courtois has joined the Limburg club through his investment company NXTPLAY Capital and is once again involved with the team where he started his professional career. For Courtois, it means a return to familiar ground. The Real Madrid goalkeeper went through the youth academy of Genk and made his debut in the first team at the age of 16. Now he returns not between the lines, but behind the scenes as an investor of his youth love. Courtois founded NXTPLAY Capital together with the Spanish entrepreneur Gonzalo Vila. The investment platform was already active in foreign football. In February, it acquired a stake in the French Le Mans, followed by an investment in the Spanish club CD Extremadura. It was already known that the fund also wanted to include a Belgian club in its portfolio. This search has now been completed with the entry into K.R.C. Genk. At Genk, the arrival of Courtois is welcomed very positively. Although no details are made public about the exact amount or the share that NXTPLAY Capital acquires, the club sees the cooperation as an important step. Not only does Courtois bring additional funds, he also has an international network and a strong reputation in the football world. As a result, he may also play a role in attracting other investors.
