K.R.C. Genk earned a point against KAA Gent on Sunday in a 1-1 Jupiler Pro League draw. The Limburgers equalised through Rafiu Durosinmi after conceding an early goal to the visitors.
The match at Cegeka Arena started poorly for the home side. Momodou Sonko opened the scoring for Gent after nine minutes, assisted by Tiago Araújo. Genk searched for an equaliser but found it after the break. Two minutes into the second half, Durosinmi headed home from a Junya Ito cross. Late on, Genk came close to a winner when Kayembe struck the post.
Gent's reaction
Gent spokesperson Mathias Delorge gave his post-match analysis. "We came here with full confidence in ourselves," he said. He stated his team dominated the first 35 minutes and should have scored a second goal. "We dropped, dropped, dropped and stayed there," Delorge explained about the second half, where he felt pressure mounted as their forwards dropped too deep. He credited the movement and rotations in Genk's midfield.

With this point, Genk sit ninth in the Jupiler Pro League, with nine points from six games. The team is unbeaten in their last five league matches, with a form of DDWDW. Durosinmi's equaliser was his first league goal of the season. The Nigerian forward joined from Viktoria Plzeň last summer. Genk's defence has now conceded nine goals in six matches, while the attack has scored thirteen. The team also played a 4-4 draw with Antwerp and a 0-0 draw with Anderlecht earlier this campaign. Their next home game is in two weeks against Standard Liège.
