Kevin Amaro's summer transfer to K.R.C. Genk helped his former club Liverpool Montevideo fund a major stadium project. The Uruguayan defender confirms the fee was used to pay for a new roof.
The 22-year-old Amaro moved from the Uruguayan top-flight side to Genk this summer for a fee of approximately three million euros, with bonuses that could add up to another half a million. He signed a contract until the summer of 2031 and is viewed as the successor to Zakaria El Ouahdi.
Amaro stated the story about the roof is correct. "According to the club's president, that paid for the new roof," the defender said with a smile. He is happy to be able to give back to the club where he developed into a Uruguay international, after previously playing for Defensor. An earlier chance for a move to River Plate fell through previously.
The defender arrives at a Genk side currently sitting tenth in the Jupiler Pro League with nine points from seven matches. The team's recent form has been mixed with one win, three draws and one defeat in their last five league games. The most recent result was a 3-0 defeat away to Club Brugge. Amaro's arrival strengthens the defensive options for manager Wouter Vrancken, whose squad can be viewed on the squad page. The next opportunity to get points comes on October 10th, when Genk play at home against Kortrijk, who are sixteenth in the table. Preparations for that match are already underway.
